International Women’s Day

The Deo Family Charitable Foundation proudly acknowledges and salutes all women who make a difference in the community, whether big or small. As part of our commitment to recognising their invaluable contributions, the Foundation hosts awards to honour deserving women for their dedication, impact, and leadership. International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration dedicated to honouring women’s achievements, contributions, and resilience across all walks of life. Observed annually on March 8th, IWD serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing pursuit of gender equality, women’s rights, and women’s empowerment everywhere.

It is a day that highlights the social, cultural, economic, and political advancements made by women while also acknowledging the challenges that persist.

The theme of International Women’s Day evolves each year, reflecting the changing landscape of women’s rights and gender equality issues worldwide. Whether focusing on breaking gender stereotypes, promoting female leadership, or advocating for equal opportunities in the workplace and beyond, IWD is a platform for raising awareness and fostering change.

In addition to celebrating women’s accomplishments, International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the work that still lies ahead in achieving full gender equality. Issues such as the gender pay gap, the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions, and the persistence of gender-based violence require continued advocacy and action.

International Women’s Day also serves as an opportunity to amplify the voices of women from diverse backgrounds, including those who may face intersectional challenges based on race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, and socio- economic status. It is a reminder that women’s rights are human rights and that progress must include all women, irrespective of their circumstances. In communities worldwide, International Women’s Day plays a pivotal role in fostering solidarity among women and allies alike and creating awareness about the necessity of gender parity in all aspects of life. Whether through local gatherings or global movements, IWD serves as a powerful reminder that the fight
for gender equality is far from over and that every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory for women everywhere.

Celebrating women on this day is about honouring their achievements and empowering future generations of women to reach their full potential.
